A high-level meeting was held in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru, to review the recent increase in wheat flour prices across the province. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Food and Director Food, Muhammad Ashfaq, along with other senior officials.
The Director Food briefed the meeting in detail about the available wheat stocks in the province and the rising trend in flour prices. Various proposals and measures were discussed to control the prices and ensure relief to the public.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for food Zahir Shah Toru said that there is no shortage of wheat in the country as sufficient stocks are available. He termed the recent increase in flour prices as temporary, caused mainly by the Punjab government’s restrictions on the inter-provincial movement of wheat and flour. He further stated that such restrictions are unconstitutional and will be taken up at the relevant forums, adding that all possible efforts will be made for the immediate lifting of the ban.
The Minister also directed the authorities concerned to strictly monitor hoarding and take stern action against those involved without any leniency. He reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to provide maximum relief to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
