A high-level delegation of consultants from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations visited the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) headquarters in Quetta to conduct a comprehensive food control system assessment. The assessment aims to support the modernization of Pakistan’s food safety and regulatory regime.- The delegation, comprising Mr. Martin Rose, Ms. Oumou Barry, and Dr. Aisha Ahmed, met with Director General BFA, Mr. Waqar Khursheed Alam, to discuss ongoing initiatives and enforcement actions.
– The consultants visited state-of-the-art food testing laboratories and various sections of the Authority, gaining insight into the latest equipment, inspection procedures, and testing protocols.
The BFA is committed to ensuring high standards of food safety across the province and eradicating unhealthy, adulterated, and substandard food products from the market. The FAO consultants appreciated the efforts of the BFA in strengthening food safety mechanisms and emphasized the importance of aligning provincial practices with international standards.
The FAO has assured continued support in technical expertise, training, and knowledge-sharing to help modernize and further strengthen Pakistan’s food safety framework. This collaborative engagement is expected to ensure safe, healthy, and quality food for citizens in Balochistan and across Pakistan, while also promoting the export of food products from the province to international markets.
