Quetta, October 1 — Governor Balochistan Jafar Khan Mandokhail has said that Balochistan holds a pivotal role in Pakistan’s economic development and prosperity, with immense potential in border trade, investment, and regional connectivity.
Speaking during a meeting with JUI-F MPA Mir Dastagir Badini at Governor House Quetta, the Governor emphasized that Balochistan serves as a gateway to Iran, Afghanistan, and particularly Central Asia. “Border trade, investment, and connectivity are the keys to sustainable prosperity for Pakistan, and Balochistan is at the center of this transformation,” he stated.
He noted that Nushki and other border districts could become vital hubs of commerce if trade activities are expanded and regulated. Small traders in these regions already provide livelihoods to thousands of families, and their role in strengthening provincial and national markets is significant.
“The establishment of border markets will not only ease the economic hardships of local communities but also boost national revenue,” Governor Mandokhail remarked. He added that strengthening border trade would help curb smuggling and encourage structured, legal commerce.
Highlighting investment opportunities, the Governor said Balochistan is rich in natural resources with vast potential in mining, fisheries, agriculture, and energy. Projects such as Gwadar Port and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) have already positioned the province as a hub of regional trade. He underlined that initiatives like shrimp farming, mineral exploration, and industrial expansion could create thousands of jobs and significantly enhance exports.
Governor Mandokhail also stressed the need for socio-economic uplift of marginalized populations, particularly in border areas, through development in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. “Our vision must include the people of these regions so they can contribute to national growth,” he said.
On security, the Governor said economic activity and stability must go hand in hand, noting that people-friendly security measures are essential to balance livelihood needs with border safety.
He assured that both provincial and federal governments are being regularly briefed on the concerns of traders and communities in border areas. He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating policies that support small-scale traders, attract investment, and expand Pakistan’s trade footprint.
“Entrepreneurs and traders have a central role in boosting productivity, creating employment, and opening access to international markets. A stronger Balochistan means a stronger Pakistan,” Governor Mandokhail concluded.
