KARACHI: Sindh Police has intensified its province-wide crackdown against narcotics, gutka, and mawa mafias, arresting hundreds of key figures and sealing dozens of drug dens.
According to a briefing at the Central Police Office chaired by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, out of 316 “A-Plus” category drug mafias, 285 have been arrested, while 142 gutka/mawa mafias were apprehended from a total of 163. Police also demolished 27 major drug dens and arrested 60 mafias operating near educational institutions, along with 38 online dealers.
The IG Sindh directed financial investigations into arrested mafias to trace possible terror-financing links, with cases to be referred to FIA where evidence emerges. He further ordered mapping of mafia networks, stronger prosecutions, and strict accountability of negligent police officials.
Officials confirmed that 88 top-listed mafias were arrested in August alone, with multiple FIRs lodged. The crackdown will continue until all networks are dismantled, the IG vowed.
