Agreement aims at joint capacity building, technical collaboration, and tackling cross-border financial crimes
Islamabad/Kuala Lumpur, October 7:
Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in preventing and combating corruption.
The MoU was signed on October 6, 2025, in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, by NAB Deputy Chairman Sohail Nasir and MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Bin Baki. The ceremony was attended by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the Prime Minister’s three-day official visit to Malaysia.
The agreement will facilitate mutual assistance, joint capacity building, and technical collaboration to strengthen anti-corruption measures in both countries. It includes sharing legislative developments, promoting public awareness, and enhancing human resource capabilities through professional training, exchange of expertise, and knowledge-sharing.
Given global concerns over corruption, money laundering, and cross-border financial crimes, the MoU also aims to strengthen legal frameworks and align anti-corruption efforts with international conventions. Both Pakistan and Malaysia are signatories to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), reflecting a strong political commitment from both sides to uphold accountability and transparency.
The MoU on anti-corruption cooperation is one of six key agreements signed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit, highlighting the importance both countries place on strengthening bilateral ties and regional governance standards.
