Ensuring public health and food safety remains a top priority for the Balochistan Food Authority. As part of its ongoing campaign against the sale of substandard and unhygienic meat, the authority has intensified inspections across Quetta to protect consumers and raise awareness among meat sellers.
During the second day of this special campaign, BFA teams conducted inspections of 61 meat and poultry shops across key areas of Quetta, including Nawan Kali, Alamdar Road, Khudaidad Chowk, Kasi Road, Joint Road, and Arbab Karam Khan Road.
The inspections revealed violations of hygiene standards and unsafe meat handling practices, resulting in action against 18 shop owners, who were fined for non-compliance. All shopkeepers were advised to fully adhere to the BFA’s prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Director General BFA, Waqar Khurshid Alam, stated that the campaign aims not only to improve meat quality but also to raise awareness among shop owners about proper hygiene and food safety practices. He emphasized that due to the high consumption of meat across Balochistan, it is essential to take strict measures against substandard meat to protect public health.
DG Alam further urged meat vendors to store meat in clean, hygienic conditions, maintain sanitized cutting tools, and use gloves and aprons at all times. BFA teams are actively inspecting shops while also educating butchers and shopkeepers on best practices.
The Balochistan Food Authority appeals to the public to report any complaints regarding substandard or spoiled meat through the BFA helpline 4664507-0333 or via the authority’s official social media channels to ensure swift action.
