Gilgit, October 9, 2025:
The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (ECGB) has entered a critical and highly active phase in its preparations for the upcoming Local Government (LG) elections, which are regarded as a milestone in the region’s democratic and developmental framework.

According to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Raja Shehbaz Khan, the LG elections will empower citizens to participate directly in local decision-making and grassroots development. “The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan is fully committed to ensuring that these elections are conducted transparently, fairly, and strictly in accordance with the law,” he stated.

To review and expedite preparations, the CEC has convened an important meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Election Commission Secretariat, Gilgit. The meeting will be chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner and attended by all Deputy Commissioners/Conveners, Deputy Directors/Members, and Assistant Commissioners Headquarters/Members from across the districts.

According to an official communication issued by the ECGB, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Islamabad, has indicated that certain locality names—such as neighborhoods and villages—are missing from the proposed block code bifurcation lists. The provision of these details has been deemed essential to finalize the approval of block codes.

The Election Commission has instructed all district delimitation members and officials to ensure their participation in the meeting along with verified and updated data, including the complete list of villages and localities, so that accurate and timely information can be submitted to the PBS.

A spokesperson for the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan further emphasized that the Commission is currently engaged in crucial electoral processes, including verification of electoral rolls, correction of census block codes, preparation of delimitations, and finalization of administrative arrangements.

Highlighting the importance of these elections, the spokesperson reiterated that the Local Government polls in Gilgit-Baltistan represent a cornerstone in strengthening democracy and ensuring inclusive development across the region. The Commission, he added, remains resolutely determined to conduct transparent, impartial, and legally sound elections that reflect the true will of the people.
