KARACHI: The Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) and the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) have acknowledged their alumnus, Dr Umair Haroon, on his recent election as a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATAS) — the organization that presents the International Emmy Awards. His inclusion in the Academy makes him the only Pakistani currently serving among its global membership.

Dr Umair Haroon’s academic background spans several leading Pakistani institutions. He obtained his medical degree from Sindh Medical College, pursued fellowship training at Dow University of Health Sciences, completed a Master’s in Public Health from SZABIST, and is presently enrolled in the PhD program at IoBM. His professional career bridges health, science communication, and media production, with experience directing and producing more than 200 television projects, including Pakistan’s first forensic science-based TV series.

News of his election to IATAS has been reported in national media, and both SZABIST and IoBM shared the announcement on their official platforms. The acknowledgment reflects the growing emphasis in higher education institutions on recognizing the professional achievements of their alumni as part of their broader engagement and outreach strategies.

Dr Umair Haroon was also congratulated by the Head of Alumni Affairs at Sindh Medical College during a phone call recognizing his achievement. The acknowledgment reflects continued institutional pride in alumni accomplishments and highlights the ongoing connection between graduates and their alma maters.

The recognition of Dr Umair Haroon’s professional milestones by SZABIST, IoBM, and Sindh Medical College underscores the evolving role of alumni relations in Pakistan’s academic landscape — where universities increasingly view alumni as lifelong representatives of their academic and professional values on both national and global platforms.
