Pakistan, China, and Hong Kong Strengthen Educational, Trade, and Technological Ties Through New MoUs
Islamabad/Beijing/Gwadar, October 17, 2025:
Pakistan’s collaboration with China and Hong Kong reached new milestones today as three significant memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance education, technology, trade, and investment cooperation, reflecting the deepening of regional partnerships under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
In Islamabad, Ghazi University (GU), Dera Ghazi Khan, and TANG Chinese International Education & Technology (Pvt.) Ltd. (TANG Pakistan) signed an MoU to promote Chinese language learning, academic exchange, and cultural cooperation. The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of GU, and Mr. Song Jianying, CEO of TANG Pakistan, at a ceremony held at TANG House, Islamabad.
The partnership includes launching Chinese language programs via the TANG Cloud Platform, establishing joint academic symposia, and facilitating faculty and student exchange initiatives. The collaboration underscores Pakistan’s growing commitment to educational internationalization and cultural connectivity with China.
Meanwhile, in Gwadar, the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) completed the installation of a Weather and Tidal Monitoring Station at Gwadar Port, marking another step toward strengthening maritime safety and environmental management.
The new system will collect real-time weather, tidal, and oceanographic data, ensuring safer navigation and improved port operations. A Gwadar Port official stated that the monitoring station enhances the port’s ability to handle severe weather conditions by integrating data analytics for risk management, cargo scheduling, and emergency coordination. The facility is equipped with advanced instruments, including anemometers, CTD sensors, and tide gauges to measure wind speed, salinity, sea level, and water quality — vital for marine research and coastal infrastructure resilience.
In Beijing, a separate MoU was signed between the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) and the Industries, Commerce & Investment Department (ICID) of Punjab to boost bilateral trade and investment. The agreement, signed by Agnes Chan, Chairperson of HKGCC, and Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, Punjab’s Minister for Industries, Commerce & Investment, aims to promote industrial cooperation, technology transfer, and export growth.
Minister Hussain emphasized that Punjab offers tax incentives, industrial land, and affordable skilled labor, making it a prime destination for foreign investors. He said, “This partnership will attract new investments, create jobs, and expand trade opportunities, bringing shared prosperity to both Hong Kong and Punjab.”
Agnes Chan added, “Our Chamber is committed to opening doors for our members. This MoU will strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a ‘super-connector’ in linking Asian markets with Pakistan’s fast-emerging economy.”
These developments reflect Pakistan’s increasing integration with regional economies, highlighting progress in education, maritime technology, and global trade partnerships that support the nation’s long-term economic and diplomatic objectives.
