KARACHI: Widespread concern has been expressed across academic and civil society circles over the reported mistreatment of Professor Dr. Sajid Hussain Siyal, Chairman and Head of the Department of Metallurgy and Material Sciences at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET).

Dr. Siyal, a highly qualified academic and researcher who completed his PhD in Metallurgy from Beijing, is widely regarded as a humble, competent, and dedicated educator. Colleagues and students describe him as a “sincere professional and supportive mentor” whose contributions have strengthened both his department and the university.

However, reports suggest that Dr. Siyal has been subjected to institutional discrimination and administrative victimization. Social media users, fellow educators, and alumni have launched an online campaign under the hashtag #JusticeForSajidHussainSiyal, calling on the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to intervene and ensure a fair inquiry.

According to sources within the university, Dr. Siyal has met all merit-based criteria, including scrutiny clearance, Selection Board approval, and Syndicate endorsement yet continues to face professional hurdles allegedly due to internal politics and bias.

“Such actions discourage qualified scientists from serving in Pakistan,” one senior academic noted. “When honesty and excellence become targets of institutional insecurity, it sends the wrong message to our youth of the country.”

Prominent voices from Sindh’s intellectual and student community have also condemned the alleged injustices. They describe Dr. Siyal as “an honest officer from a humble rural background who earned his place through hard work,” urging the authorities to uphold merit and fairness at DUET.

Local professors and student leaders have appealed to the Sindh government to investigate the issue transparently and protect the dignity and rights of committed educators. “Justice delayed is justice denied,” read one widely shared post supporting Dr. Siyal. “We stand with Professor Dr. Sajid Hussain Siyal.”
