Security Forces on Wednesday conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Dogar area of Kurram District against militants identified as members of the group Fitna al Khwarij, which the military describes as an Indian-linked proxy, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to an ISPR statement issued from Rawalpindi, troops engaged the armed elements after receiving actionable intelligence. Seven militants were killed during the operation, the statement said, and a subsequent sanitisation sweep is under way to clear the area of any remaining hostile elements.

The operation, ISPR added, came at a heavy cost: six members of the security forces lost their lives during an intense exchange of fire. Among the fallen was Captain Noman Saleem, 24, a medical officer from Mianwali, who — in addition to performing medical duties — took part in the combat and was martyred. The other personnel killed are:

Havildar Amjad Ali, 39, resident of Swabi;

Naik Waqas Ahmad, 36, resident of Rawalpindi;

Sepoy Aijaz Ali, 23, resident of Shikarpur;

Sepoy Muhammad Waleed, 23, resident of Jhelum;

Sepoy Muhammad Shahbaz, 32, resident of Khairpur.

The ISPR said security forces are conducting follow-up sanitisation operations to eliminate any remaining militants in the vicinity. It described the action as part of an ongoing counter-terrorism campaign carried out under the national vision “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan.

The military reiterated its commitment to maintain pressure on foreign-sponsored and supported terrorist networks and vowed to continue operations until the threat is removed.

Local authorities and security agencies have tightened movement and checkpoints in the district as investigations and area clearance continue. Further details, including the identities of the killed militants and any arrests, were not immediately released.
