Peshawar, Nov 6: A seminar was organized at the Press Information Department (PID) Peshawar on Kashmir Martyrs’ Day under the chairmanship of Information Officer Sabiha Chand. The event was attended by President of Peshawar Press Club Muhammad Riaz, senior journalist Fareedullah, and participants from various walks of life.

In her opening remarks, Sabiha Chand paid tribute to the innocent Kashmiris martyred on November 6, 1947, at the hands of Dogra forces, RSS, and Sikh troops. She emphasized that Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region before partition, suffered a demographic shift due to the organized massacre, and highlighted the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with historical facts and principles of justice.

Muhammad Riaz, President of Peshawar Press Club, said, “Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah declared Kashmir as Pakistan’s jugular vein. Without Kashmir, Pakistan’s concept remains incomplete.” He described the 1947 genocide as a deliberate attempt to reduce the Muslim majority and alter Kashmir’s geographical and demographic status. Riaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support for the Kashmiri people, calling Kashmir Pakistan’s “red line.”

Senior journalist Fareedullah highlighted that the oppression of Kashmiris began before Pakistan’s creation, citing British Library records that nearly 500,000 Muslims were massacred by November 1947. He also criticized India’s 2019 decision to revoke Kashmir’s special constitutional status, calling it an attempt to make Muslims a minority in their homeland. He described the United Nations as a weak institution failing to implement its own resolutions on Kashmir.

Concluding the seminar, Sabiha Chand stressed that atrocities in Kashmir constitute crimes against humanity, urging global accountability for those responsible. She said the world must send a clear message that injustice and oppression anywhere will not be tolerated.
