Nationwide Outrage: Journalists, Lawyers, and Governor Lash Out at KP Chief Minister Over Disgraceful Remarks Against Security Forces
Peshawar | November 7, 2025
A storm of condemnation has erupted across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s controversial and inflammatory remarks allegedly mocking security forces and making derogatory religious references.
The Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) issued a blistering statement, calling the Chief Minister’s words “deeply shameful, divisive, and an insult to the sacrifices of martyrs.” The union said that dragging the blood of martyrs and the sanctity of mosques into political disputes was “absolutely unacceptable.”
> “Such disgraceful statements fuel hatred against state institutions and undermine national unity,” the KUJ declared, demanding that the Chief Minister withdraw his irresponsible remarks without delay. “Politics must never be weaponized against the defenders of Pakistan,” the union added, emphasizing that the sacrifices of the armed forces in the war against terrorism are eternal.
In a powerful rebuke, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned the statement, saying that the armed forces are the nation’s pride and shield.
> “Our brave soldiers sacrifice their lives for the province’s peace and security,” the Governor said. “Casting doubt on their intentions weakens morale and damages public confidence.” He urged the Chief Minister to show restraint, uphold national unity, and avoid political exploitation that could endanger national security.
Adding to the chorus of denunciation, the Peshawar Bar Association also expressed “severe condemnation” of the Chief Minister’s remarks. President Qaiser Zaman Advocate said the words were “irresponsible, provocative, and a direct insult to both state institutions and sacred places of worship.”
> “Such reckless rhetoric aims to mislead the public, sow division, and erode respect for institutions,” he said, demanding an unconditional public apology from the Chief Minister.
The Association’s cabinet unanimously declared that Afridi’s language and behavior are unbecoming of his office and risk inciting instability and unrest in the province.
The legal community reaffirmed that it stands firmly with the Constitution, the armed forces, and national integrity, vowing to oppose any attempt to weaken the nation’s unity or exploit religion for political gain.
