Beijing: A heartwarming initiative led by a Pakistani Ph.D. student in China is bringing winter relief to families in need in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, highlighting the power of compassion and cross-cultural cooperation.

On November 11, a total of 49 boxes filled with winter essentials began their journey to families living in remote mountain areas, delivering warmth and a strong message of international solidarity, according to reports.

The campaign was organized by From Compassion to Action (FCTA), a volunteer group founded by Ali Qadir, who arrived in China eleven years ago as a young undergraduate student. What began as a personal educational journey has now evolved into a global movement, uniting students and volunteers from multiple countries.

This year’s winter campaign brought together approximately 60 volunteers from diverse backgrounds, representing Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kenya, Morocco, Sri Lanka, and Ethiopia. The donated items were carefully processed by local organizations through professional cleaning, meticulous sorting, and systematic packaging before distribution to regions facing severe winter conditions.

Ali Qadir’s personal journey mirrors the growth of his initiative. Arriving in China at the age of 20, he embraced the challenges of a new culture while excelling academically. His accolades include awards at international Model UN conferences, volunteering for Olympic events, and receiving prestigious scholarships for three consecutive years.

Under his leadership, FCTA’s impact has been formally recognized. In 2017 and 2019, Ali Qadir and his team were honored with the “Wutong Award” by the Nanjing Public Diplomacy Association for their outstanding contributions to international friendship and cooperation. The group has conducted over 250 volunteer activities across more than 20 public service projects, consistently mobilizing volunteers to improve living conditions for vulnerable communities.

By harnessing the energy of both local Chinese and international volunteers, FCTA continues to transform social compassion into tangible aid, while promoting cultural exchange and strengthening bonds between China and the wider world.
