QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly adopted a resolution recommending provincial government to approach federal government to end the load shedding of gas and electricity in the cold and hot areas of the province respectively.
The resolution was tabled by the Opposition’s member of assembly, Asghar Tareen while the Speaker Captain (Retd) Abdul Khaliq Khan Achakzai was in the chair, here on Friday afternoon.
As per the content of resolution, in the bitter cold of winter across all districts of Balochistan, gas load-shedding, and in the extreme heat of summer, electricity load-shedding have made life miserable for the people of the province.
The resolution further mentioned that “despite the assurances given by the concerned Sui Southern Gas Company and QESCO officials during the briefing to the members of the assembly regarding the provision of gas and electricity, no substantial measures have been taken so far, causing severe difficulties for the public.”
The House recommended to the provincial government to approach the federal government to immediately end gas load-shedding in those areas of Balochistan where harsh cold prevails, and to ensure an end to electricity load-shedding in areas where extreme heat occurs.
While expressing his views on his resolution, Member of the Assembly Asghar Tareen said that we keep suffering from gas load-shedding in winter and electricity load-shedding in summer. Even after agricultural feeders have been shifted to solar power, load-shedding of electricity is still being carried out. Asghar Tareen further stated that in Pishin district, firewood is being sold at 2,000 rupees per maund. He urged the government members to ask the Governor to take up this issue with the federal government.
Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani said that the issue of gas and electricity load-shedding in Balochistan is becoming increasingly serious. A committee should be formed that will go to Islamabad and raise this matter. Government MPA Zarak Khan Mandokhail said that there is load-shedding of up to eight hours. A committee comprising both government and opposition members should be formed to discuss the issue with the Prime Minister.
The Opposition MPA Mir Zabid Reki said that “if Maulana Fazlur Rehman were the Prime Minister of the country, he would have resolved the electricity and Sui gas problem within two days.”
Meanwhile, another resolution was adopted about giving Killi Alizai of Pishin district the status of Tehsil in the assembly.
The resolution was tabled by the MPA Syed Zafar Agha.
Similarly, a resolution regarding establishing a mechanism for the implementation of the Balochistan Assembly’s resolutions was also approved.
The resolution was presented by MPA Salma Bibi.
On this, the Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai stated that a resolution is merely a recommendation, and it is up to the government to decide whether to implement it or not.
In this regard, Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani said that it is a good thing if resolutions are implemented.
He added that the Secretary of the Assembly should prepare a list of such resolutions, and the government will try to ensure their implementation.
