Sindh Govt Moves to Tackle Corruption, Anti-Corruption Minister Orders Strict Action

Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to take strict measures against corruption complaints received across key provincial departments. The announcement came after a high-level meeting chaired by Minister for Anti-Corruption, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar, attended by Anti-Corruption Chairman Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah and DG Anti-Corruption Imtiaz Ali Abro.
During the meeting, the annual performance report of the Anti-Corruption Department was reviewed, along with detailed briefings on complaints against different departments. Key decisions included immediate and strict action against verified complaints.
According to DG Imtiaz Ali Abro, between January 1 and December 31, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Committees held 28 meetings reviewing 536 cases and 328 open inquiries. Among these, 23 re-inquiries were conducted, 15 cases closed, 103 cases referred to relevant departments, 43 deferred, and 24 FIRs approved.
The department received a total of 13,603 corruption complaints across 22 departments, including SBCA (1,022), KDA (408), Local Government (1,623), Revenue (2,598), Education (841), Police (1,211), Works & Services (736), Health (595), Public Health (344), Food (255), Forest (216), and Irrigation (619).
Anti-Corruption statistics show that 9,423 cases were verified in 2025, while 18,288 are under verification and 6,835 disposed of. The complaint resolution rate increased from 11% in 2023 to 24% in 2024 and 37.37% in 2025. Field operations included 45 new cases, 812 cases sent to courts, 2 convictions, 2 trap operations, and 22 surprise visits.
Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar directed that all complaints against officers be handled immediately and impartially, emphasizing that maintaining public trust is every officer’s foremost responsibility.
