Gas Shortages Deepen Winter Woes for Quetta Residents

Quetta: With the onset of winter, residents of Quetta are once again facing acute difficulties due to an erratic and inadequate supply of natural gas, raising serious concerns over the seasonal management policies of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
While gas supply generally remains stable during the summer months, citizens complain that it sharply declines or completely disappears with the arrival of cold weather—an issue that has now become a recurring annual problem. Over the past several days, gas supply has reportedly been fully suspended in a number of localities, including Satellite Town, Abdullah Town and adjoining areas.
Residents say prolonged gas outages during peak winter have severely disrupted daily life. Women face major challenges in preparing meals, while access to hot water and heating for children, elderly family members and patients has become increasingly difficult amid plunging temperatures.
Local residents allege that despite repeated assurances from SSGC, no sustainable or long-term solution has been introduced to ensure uninterrupted gas supply during winter, when consumption naturally increases. “Every year we hear the same promises, and every year the situation becomes worse,” a resident of Satellite Town remarked.
Affected citizens have strongly demanded that SSGC ensure fair and continuous gas supply, particularly during the harsh winter season. They have also appealed to higher authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and hold those responsible accountable for repeated disruptions.
Residents warned that unless urgent corrective measures are taken, the ongoing gas crisis will continue to compound public hardship and suffering throughout the winter months.
