Quetta : The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan has placed its teams on high alert in response to ongoing snowfall and rainfall in different parts of the province, successfully restoring and keeping major highways open to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.
Director Relief Operations PDMA Balochistan, Mir Attaullah Mengal, said that since the start of adverse weather conditions, PDMA teams have been working round-the-clock to clear snow and tackle weather-related challenges. He stated that timely and coordinated measures have helped keep all key highways across the province operational, preventing inconvenience to commuters and travelers.
Mengal said that on the special directives of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Director General PDMA Jahanzeb Khan is personally supervising relief and clearance operations. Heavy machinery and field staff have been placed on constant standby to ensure roads in snow-affected areas remain safe for traffic.
He added that the Director General PDMA has appreciated the professionalism and preparedness of field teams and directed them to ensure swift response in case of any emergency, along with optimal utilization of available resources.
Talking to media representatives, Mir Attaullah Mengal emphasized that the protection of life and property, along with the timely provision of relief during rain and snowfall, remains PDMA’s top priority. He appealed to the public—particularly travelers and tourists—to avoid unnecessary travel, exercise caution, and fully cooperate with PDMA and district administration teams to prevent any untoward incidents.
The director relief further informed that PDMA remains on high alert across Balochistan in view of forecasts indicating further snowfall and worsening weather conditions. He said the chief minister is closely monitoring the situation and has directed authorities to submit hourly situation reports.
He added that the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre is functioning round-the-clock, ensuring coordination, monitoring, tracking and reporting, as well as timely deployment of relief resources wherever required.
Recalling previous operations, Mengal said that during earlier spells of snowfall, PDMA successfully prevented the closure of major highways and safely rescued stranded individuals and vehicles. He said PDMA remains in constant coordination with district administrations and is fully prepared to deal with any potential emergency situation.
