LAHORE, Feb 15: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a three-month deadline to implement comprehensive police reforms across the province, directing senior officers to personally engage citizens for feedback.
Chairing a high-level meeting, she approved installation of 14,000 body cameras and 700 panic buttons at police stations, along with online FIR registration and tracking systems. Minor complaints against police must be resolved within two to three hours, while investigations will be audio and video recorded. Strict enforcement of traffic lane discipline was also ordered, alongside the launch of the Traffic Police One App and Safe City Monitoring App.
Officials informed the meeting that overall crime has declined by 48 percent and major crimes by up to 80 percent, with response time reduced to eight minutes. The chief minister stressed respectful treatment of citizens and comprehensive reforms to restore public confidence.
