Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Raisani Slams Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act, Vows Legal Battle to Protect Provincial Resources
Independent Report
Quetta, February 15: Tribal and political leader Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Raisani has sharply criticized the Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act, calling it a threat to the province’s natural resources and the rights of local communities. He argued that the legislation, passed by the provincial assembly last year, restricts Balochistan’s authority over its own resources and undermines the entitlements of its people.
Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, Raisani stressed that political parties must serve as a bridge between the state and citizens, safeguarding public interests. He lamented that political leadership has largely failed to act decisively on this issue, despite the urgent need to defend provincial rights.
Referring to the Reko Diq project, Raisani claimed that deals had been prearranged and that the Mines and Minerals Act was influenced by narrow vested interests. “The constitution has been sidelined, and decisions are being made against the broader welfare of Balochistan’s citizens,” he asserted.
Raisani reminded that he had previously cautioned international investors against investing in Balochistan due to policies and laws that fail to protect local communities and resources. He confirmed that his constitutional petition challenging the Mines Act is under judicial review and vowed to continue his struggle through legal and constitutional avenues.
“The act opens the door for exploitation of Balochistan’s wealth, and we will challenge it on every available platform,” he said, emphasizing that safeguarding resources is essential for the survival and well-being of future generations.
Raisani added that he had formally requested the Mines Department for details regarding the legislation but had received no response. He reiterated that his demands would be pursued through proper legal channels, warning that although the rule of law currently appears weakened, the assembly’s law will be contested and public opinion mobilized.
He also cautioned that persistent irregularities or corruption in PSDP projects would be met with proactive measures to prevent exploitation. Raisani reaffirmed his commitment to defending Balochistan’s resources, rights, and constitutional protections, pledging to continue his advocacy in all legal and constitutional forums.
