Independent Report
Karachi, September 24, 2025: Senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Dr. Farooq Sattar, has strongly criticized the Sindh government for what he called “inept governance, corruption, and negligence,” which he claims has pushed Karachi into a state of crisis. Speaking at an emergency press conference in Bahadurabad, Dr. Sattar described the city as “a ruin, a wounded entity, and an abandoned settlement.”
He cited several urgent concerns affecting Karachi residents:
University Road has turned into a flood-like waterway, making commuting hazardous.
Shahrah-e-Bhutto suffered severe damage during heavy rains, potentially endangering lives.
The Hub Canal breach left residents without essential water supplies.
Poor storm drain maintenance has caused widespread urban flooding.
The K-IV water project, initiated 14 years ago at a cost of Rs 25 billion, has reportedly escalated to Rs 150 billion with negligible water delivered to citizens.
Underpasses in Karimabad, Gulistan-e-Johar, and Natha Khan remain in disrepair.
The Red Line project, intended as a lifeline for the city, continues to face delays, further inconveniencing commuters.
Despite local gas production, many city areas remain without gas connections.
Dr. Sattar highlighted the paradox that both the provincial chief minister and Karachi’s mayor belong to the same political party, yet the city’s infrastructure and public services remain severely neglected. He accused the ruling party of misappropriating development funds while ordinary citizens continue to suffer.
He warned that once National Accountability Bureau (NAB) files are opened, the government’s corruption would be exposed, stating, “Public justice is imminent, and those responsible will face accountability.”
Joining Dr. Sattar, MQM-P senior leader and National Assembly member Syed Aminul Haq vowed to confront those obstructing federal projects in Karachi and Hyderabad at all levels. He also criticized seven PPP National Assembly members from Karachi for their silence on city issues, calling it evidence of their apathy towards public welfare.
The press conference saw participation from MQM-P National Assembly members Dr. Nighat Shakeel, Javed Hanif, Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui, Sabheen Ghori, and provincial assembly members Dr. Abdul Basit, Jamal Ahmed, Ijaz Haq, Amir Siddiqui, and Farah Sohail.
