President Asif Ali Zardari’s Message on National Newspaper Reading Day: Newspapers Are the Foundation of Democracy and an Informed Nation
Islamabad, September 25, 2025: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized on National Newspaper Reading Day that newspapers play a pivotal role in keeping the public informed and nurturing national awareness. He highlighted that an informed citizenry is the cornerstone of democracy, and print media plays an indispensable role in this process.
President Zardari stated that newspapers have always served the public interest and exposed injustices. In today’s era of social media, the values of responsible journalism have become even more significant. He emphasized that newspapers do not merely report news, but also provide depth, analysis, and context, helping readers make informed decisions and fostering civic awareness.
He added that despite challenges, the world’s leading newspapers have continued to grow, and Pakistan’s newspapers can also flourish by maintaining public trust and loyalty. He encouraged the younger generation to develop the habit of reading newspapers and urged educational institutions to promote newspaper reading among students to cultivate more informed and responsible citizens.
President Zardari also stressed the importance of ethical standards, impartiality, and accountability in print media. He stated that journalistic freedom is essential for democracy, but it must be exercised with balance, fairness, and responsibility.
He concluded that the increasing readership of newspapers guarantees a more informed and democratic Pakistan, and those involved in promoting print media play a vital role in national development and public awareness.
The president further noted that promoting print media not only enhances the dissemination of information but also awakens critical thinking and awareness among the youth, thereby laying the foundation for a stronger, informed, and democratic Pakistan.
