Turbat – September 26, 2025:
The Department of Economics, University of Turbat, organized a thematic session titled “Building Climate Resilience in Makran: Towards Sustainable Development”.
Mr. Pazeer Ahmed, Coastal Hydrogeologist, Environmentalist, Researcher, and Deputy Director, Water Resources Planning, Balochistan Irrigation Department, delivered the keynote address. He highlighted Gwadar’s extreme vulnerability to sea-level rise, which is occurring 10 to 15 times faster than the global average, and warned that over-extraction of groundwater and unplanned land use threaten long-term sustainability.
Faculty members, including Dr. Muhammad Yaqoob, Dr. Abdul Qayyum Baloch, Dr. Fida Ahmed, and a large number of students attended. Active audience participation enriched the session, and the keynote speaker addressed all queries comprehensively. Dr. Yaqoob expressed gratitude to Mr. Ahmed for sharing his expertise, noting the session’s value in enhancing students’ academic and research skills.
