China Pledges 100 Million Yuan in Additional Flood Relief for Pakistan, Reaffirms Iron-Brother Solidarity
ISLAMABAD, Sept. 27 : China has announced an additional 100 million yuan (Rs. 3.94 billion) in flood-relief supplies for Pakistan, on top of the $2 million emergency aid already provided earlier this month, underscoring Beijing’s solidarity with its “iron brother” amid devastating monsoon floods, Gwadar Pro reported Saturday.
In a statement posted on X (Twitter), the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad said:
> “In addition to the first $2 million of emergency assistance, China will offer additional flood relief supplies worth 100 million yuan RMB, to further support Pakistan’s efforts in disaster relief and reconstruction.”
According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), floods since late June have killed over 1,000 people, injured 1,060, displaced more than 2 million, and destroyed farmland and critical infrastructure.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reaffirmed Beijing’s support, stating:
> “Chinese leaders have extended sympathies to Pakistani leaders over the devastating floods. China has provided emergency aid to Pakistan and will provide more assistance in light of Pakistan’s need. We believe under the leadership of the Pakistani government, the Pakistani people will recover and rebuild from the disaster.”
A Chinese Embassy delegation, led by Charge d’Affaires Shi Yuanqiang, also visited the National Emergencies Operation Centre at NDMA on September 13, assuring Islamabad of “full support for ongoing relief and recovery efforts.”
Relief materials from China have already begun arriving in Pakistan. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has dispatched 12,000 tents, generators, water pumps, and solar systems, while PLA medical camps in flood-hit areas are offering free medicines and healthcare services to displaced families.
The Chinese Embassy emphasized:
> “We sincerely hope all the communities affected by the recent devastating floods recover soon. The Chinese side joins hands with our Pakistani iron brothers and sisters to overcome the challenges and help affected families rebuild their homes.”
