Karachi, June 30 : Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh leader Kashif Saeed Sheikh strongly condemned the Sindh police’s use of force on protesting teachers in Karachi. The protestors, marching towards the Chief Minister’s House, were met with baton charges, water cannons, and rubber bullets. Sheikh demanded the government acknowledge the teachers’ demands and respect their rights.

Sheikh criticized the use of taxpayer-funded resources against the protesting teachers, resources which should have been utilized for public safety and crime prevention. He accused the current government of being more dictatorial than previous governments. He condemned the aggression, shelling, and tear gas use against the teachers as a violation of their dignity. The leader highlighted the Sindh government’s 17-year history of using force against demonstrations.

According to Sheikh, the police action against teachers seeking better compensation demonstrates the administration’s oppressive behavior. He believes it shows the government’s disinterest in addressing the concerns of government employees. He demanded that the teachers’ demands be accepted, the officers responsible for the violence resign, and the arrested teachers be released.

Sheikh added that the government’s reliance on law enforcement agencies for every issue is unacceptable. Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh expressed solidarity with the teachers and pledged support for their protest. He appealed to higher authorities to address the legitimate concerns of teachers and other government employees through dialogue and resolution, rather than force and arrests, which only fuels unrest.
