LONDON: US President Donald Trump said Washington is trying to reclaim Afghanistan’s Bagram air base, citing its proximity to China’s nuclear facilities. He made the remarks at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his state visit.

Earlier, Trump and Starmer signed what the British premier called the “biggest tech investment package in UK history,” covering AI, quantum computing, and nuclear energy, with £150 billion pledged by US firms. Trump hailed US-UK ties as an “unbreakable bond.”

The two leaders also clashed over recognising a Palestinian state. Trump opposed the move, while Starmer reiterated his commitment to recognition, though both agreed on the need for a peace roadmap for

Gaza.
