U.S. Political Unit Chief Calls on Acting Governor & Speaker Sindh Assembly
Speaker welcomed and enhanced engagement with the U.S. Mission

KARACHI: Acting Governor Sindh and Speaker Provincial Assembly, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, received Mr. Jerrod Hansen, Chief of the Political Unit at the U.S. Consulate General Karachi, accompanied by Political Specialist Mr. Mohammad Saleh Shah, at the Sindh Assembly today.
Acting Governor Shah was joined by Secretary Sindh Assembly, Mr. G.M. Umar Farooq, and Director General Media, Mr. Irfan Ahmed Memon.
Mr. Hansen conveyed greetings on behalf of the newly appointed Consul General and expressed interest in strengthening ties with the Sindh Assembly, including attending its proceedings.
Speaker Shah shared that the Assembly is working to complete 100 sittings within its second parliamentary year and welcomed enhanced engagement with the U.S. Mission.
The meeting focused on areas of mutual cooperation, including leadership and exchange programs, training for young parliamentarians, and capacity-building initiatives for the Assembly Secretariat.
Syed Awais Qadir Shah emphasized specific areas of interest, including pre- and post-budgeting practices, democratic learning programs, and capacity-building for parliamentary staff.
Mr. Hansen also discussed Pakistan’s recent flooding situation, its impact, and how the U.S. Mission is helping flood-affected communities in the affected regions.
Syed Awais Qadir Shah appreciated the leadership of the Sindh Government under Chief Minister Sindh, guided by Chairman PPP, for effectively mitigating risks during the recent flooding challenges.
Broader discussions also touched upon global tariff issues, as well as the U.S. administrative and social security systems.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing parliamentary cooperation. Acting Governor and Speaker Sindh Assembly, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, honored the visiting delegation with Sindh’s traditional Ajrak and cap.
