Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Meets Federal Finance Minister
Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan emphasized to urgent need to make the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) fully operational.
GILGIT: Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Haji Gulbar Khan, held a meeting with the Federal Finance Minister to discuss the recent damage caused by floods and heavy rainfall in the region and measures to enhance disaster management capabilities.
The Chief Minister stated that Gilgit-Baltistan was more severely affected compared to other regions and emphasized the urgent need to make the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) fully operational. He highlighted that to strengthen the agency’s capacity and ensure effective operations across all districts, the creation of 143 new positions is immediately required. The provincial government has recommended these positions to the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Additionally, the Chief Minister stressed the need to upgrade the posts of secretaries in key departments of Gilgit-Baltistan to Grade 21, following the model of other provinces. Six new Grade 21 positions are required to provide officers with opportunities for professional advancement and to improve governance.
The Federal Finance Minister assured the Chief Minister that the creation of the 143 new positions for GBDMA and the six Grade 21 positions for provincial secretaries would be expedited. The provincial government has submitted its case to the federal authorities in this regard.
