GAWDAR: The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has restored water supply from Shadi Kaur Dam to Gwadar city, providing 2 million gallons per day on the directives of the Chief Minister of Balochistan.
GDA Director General Moin-ur-Rehman Khan said the 83-kilometer-long supply line has been reactivated to ease the city’s water crisis. He noted that prolonged drought, with no rainfall for nearly 18 months, has dried one dam completely while another is near depletion.
Khan added that work is underway on a 1.2 million gallon desalination plant and a 0.5 million gallon sensor boring project to boost water resources.
Gwadar’s daily demand stands at 3.5 million gallons. With the Shadi Kaur supply and upcoming projects, an additional 1.5 million gallons will soon be added to meet the city’s needs.
