Government Employees Begin 5-Day Strike, Offices Locked until the Govt decision on Pension amendments

KARACHI/LARKANA/THATTA/MIRPURKHAS: Like other parts of Sindh, the Sindh Employees Alliance staged protests and strikes across province, bringing routine work to a standstill in government offices, schools, colleges, and even the district and Tehsils’ Civil Hospitals across.

 

On the call of the Alliance, a complete shutdown was observed as employees locked offices and institutions, leaving patients at hospitals in severe difficulty.

 

A massive rally was also taken out in the different small and big cities included the Thatta Municipal Committee also protest rally.

That starting from the Municipal Office and culminating at the Thatta Press Club.

Hundreds of employees, along with leaders of various unions, participated.

 

Protesters staged a sit-in in front of the Press Club. Addressing the demonstrations, union leaders including Ejaz Palejo, Latif Khokhri, Ghulam Nabi Khushk, and Ahmed Nawaz Pathan said that employees in Sindh were being deliberately deprived of their rights.

They pointed out that workers in other provinces receive greater benefits, while Sindh’s employees are denied group insurance, allowances, and fair pensions.

 

They condemned what they described as an “injustice,” accusing the government of cutting pension benefits and failing to adjust salaries in line with rising inflation.

The leaders warned that the protest campaign will continue from September 23 to September 27 until their demands are met.

 

Government Employees Begin 5-Day Strike, Offices Locked

On the call of the Sindh Employees Alliance, a five-day strike has begun across Mirpurkhas, resulting in the closure of all government offices and creating difficulties for citizens.

 

Employees staged protest demonstrations outside their offices, demanding an increase in salaries and pensions, payment of disaster risk allowance, and release of group insurance funds.

 

The Sindh Employees Alliance, led by President Gul Hassan Lashari along with Coordination Committee members and other office bearers, visited various departments and schools to express solidarity with protesting workers. Leaders warned that if their demands were not accepted, they would stage a sit-in outside Bilawal House in Karachi on October 6.

 

Meanwhile, a central protest camp has been set up outside the Press Club until October 5.

 

The Education Board’s APCA unit, under the leadership of President Nauman Ahmed Rajput and provincial officials, also staged a rally and locked down the Education Board office.

 

The strike has severely affected routine matters: issuance of domiciles, pension cases, preparation of government documents, and educational activities in government schools have all come to a halt, causing widespread public inconvenience.

 

Citizens have urged the government to hold talks with employees and resolve their issues on a priority basis to prevent further escalation.
