KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to launch the Pink Scooters Program this week, aimed at providing free electric scooters to women and female students.

 

The decision was finalized in a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, MD Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kanwal Bhutto, and other officials.

 

Speaking at the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon described the program as a revolutionary step to facilitate women’s mobility. He said the initiative will not only save time and reduce travel costs but also ensure safe and dignified transport for women who rely on public transport for education, employment, and daily needs.

 

He emphasized that scooters will be distributed based on merit and need through a transparent process, with the Sindh Mass Transit Authority compiling applicant records. The minister further stated that the government has introduced a simple procedure to maximize benefits for women across the province.

 

Calling the scheme a significant measure for women empowerment, he urged female students and working women to avail themselves of the facility. He reiterated that the Sindh government and the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership are committed to creating opportunities that allow women to actively participate in education, employment, and all spheres of life.
