Special Assistant to CM for HRD Visits Central Prison Karachi to Review Inmate Rights
Ongoing rehabilitation programs, including computer training, language courses, music classes, handicrafts, and vocational skills
KARACHI: Honorable Rajvir Singh Sodha, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for the Human Rights Department, visited Central Prison Karachi to assess the protection of inmate rights. He was accompanied by Agha Fakhar Hussain, Director Human Rights, department officials, human rights advocates, and civil society representatives.
Mr. Sodha first held a detailed meeting with IG Prisons Sindh, Fida Hussain Mastoi, who briefed him on major challenges, including overcrowding, healthcare, and rehabilitation opportunities for under-trial inmates.
Later, at the prison, Superintendent Abdul Karim Abbasi and DSP A.D. Channa presented ongoing rehabilitation programs, including computer training, language courses, music classes, handicrafts, and vocational skills. Mr. Sodha also inspected food facilities, expressing satisfaction with hygiene and meal quality, and personally interacted with inmates to inquire about the availability of basic amenities.
