Two-Day Literary Conference “Gilgit-Baltistan Literature: Contemporary Perspective” Begins in Skardu

Skardu – The two-day literary conference titled “Gilgit-Baltistan Literature: Contemporary Perspective”, organized by the Pakistan Academy of Letters and the National Heritage and Culture Division, has officially commenced in Skardu.

The conference aims to highlight Gilgit-Baltistan’s literary heritage, ensure the preservation of local language and culture, and promote literature in accordance with contemporary trends. Renowned writers, researchers, poets, and literary personalities from various districts of Gilgit-Baltistan participated in the event.

Presentations covered topics such as the current state of regional literature, language and cultural preservation, and new literary dimensions in response to modern social and cultural demands. Linguist Muhammad Hassan Hasrat presented a paper on “Gilgit-Baltistan Literature and Changing Societal Demands”, while researcher Ali Qurban highlighted “Wakhi History, Culture, and Literature.”

Special guest at the inaugural ceremony was Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Maytham Kazim, while historian and researcher Yusuf Hussain Abadi served as the chief of the event. Provincial Minister for Construction Syed Amjad Zaidi, President of the Pakistan Academy of Letters Dr. Najiba Arif, renowned writers Amin Zia, Abdul Khaliq Taj, Dr. Muzafar Hussain Anjum, Commissioner Baltistan Division Kamal Khan, Additional Commissioner Roundu, and several other literary figures also attended.
