Islamabad, Sept 30 Pakistan is set to achieve its target of exporting 10,000 metric tonnes of sesame to China in 2025, supported by contract farming projects spearheaded by Chinese companies under CPEC-driven agriculture initiatives.
China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has expanded sesame farming to 5,000 acres, training farmers, introducing modern technology, and enhancing infrastructure. Pakistan’s sesame exports to China reached $226 million in 2024, with projections of crossing $1 billion in the coming years.
Experts say enhanced quality control, direct trade links, and high demand in China for Pakistani sesame in cooking oil and health foods are driving growth. Officials forecast Pakistan’s overall agricultural exports to China could exceed $20 billion with sustained cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
