Swat / Buner — Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Ameer Muqam, visited flood-affected areas in Swat and Buner, distributing compensation cheques of Rs. 2 million each to the impacted families. The minister emphasized that serving the people is a national duty that transcends political affiliations.

The minister began his tour in Swat, handing over financial assistance cheques in the presence of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and local administration officials. Leadership from PML-N in Swat was also present.

“The federal government is committed to serving the people without any political bias,” Muqam stated, assuring that aid distribution is impartial and transparent.

He then proceeded to Buner, one of the worst-hit regions, where he distributed additional compensation cheques and commended the tireless efforts of local volunteers, welfare organizations, and journalists who assisted during the crisis.

“I was personally in Swat during the floods, and witnessing the devastation in Buner deeply affected me,” he remarked.

Muqam noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir had personally visited the affected areas, highlighting the situation internationally and ensuring a rapid response. He emphasized that compensation is being provided based on a uniform formula and all decisions are taken transparently at the district level.

“We did not raise party flags; we only stood for humanity,” he said, adding that restoration work on roads, electricity, and mobile networks has already begun, with NHA, PESCO, and other departments working on an urgent basis.

The minister also acknowledged the hardships faced by hotel owners and assured that genuine victims would receive their entitled compensation. Citing climate change as a growing factor behind such disasters, he called for collective national efforts to mitigate future risks.

“My politics revolves around public service, whether someone voted for me or not,” Muqam said, urging unity in relief and rehabilitation efforts. He reminded the nation that recovery from flood damage is a long-term process requiring coordination across federal, provincial, and district authorities.

Concluding his visit, he affirmed, “Until rehabilitation is complete, politics must be set aside, and humanity must come first.”
