Embassy of Japan Hosts Cultural Exchange for NUML Students: Hands-On Experience of Tradition and Friendship

The Embassy of Japan in Islamabad organized a vibrant cultural exchange program on October 1, offering Japanese language students from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) an engaging opportunity to experience Japan’s traditions and values firsthand.

Welcoming the students, Ms. Ura Mamiko, Deputy Head of Public Affairs at the Embassy of Japan, expressed gratitude for their dedication to learning the Japanese language and culture, describing it as a meaningful bridge between the people of Japan and Pakistan.

The event featured three interactive sessions:

Traditional Attire: Students were introduced to the Kimono and Yukata, with a live demonstration for three lucky participants selected through a draw.

Japanese Calligraphy (Shodō): Students practiced writing Japanese Kanji characters using brushes and ink, gaining practical insight into this centuries-old art form.

Dining Customs & Chopstick Challenge: Participants learned Japanese dining etiquette, culminating in a lively chopstick competition where top winners received commemorative gifts from the Embassy.

Concluding the event, Ms. Mamiko emphasized that such youth-focused initiatives highlight the Embassy’s commitment to promoting cultural understanding and strengthening people-to-people ties between Japan and Pakistan.

Students expressed their gratitude, calling the program an enriching opportunity to connect with Japanese traditions in a truly interactive and memorable way.
