AFP Faces Financial & Pressures Amid Rising Populism

Agence France-Presse (AFP) is reportedly under growing financial stress and political pressure as populist and authoritarian governments challenge press freedom. In the first half of 2025, AFP documented 25 serious incidents involving its journalists, more than the entire 2024 total. The agency faces a projected €7.6 million revenue shortfall.
