KARACHI: A high-level meeting of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Chief Coordinator Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi.
The meeting was attended by prominent political figures including Murtaza Khan Jatoi, Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza, Liaquat Jatoi, Syed Zain Shah, Dr. Safdar Abbasi, Sardar Abdul Rahim, and others.
The participants held a detailed discussion on the current political, economic, and security situation in the country, particularly focusing on Sindh. They expressed deep concern over the deteriorating economy, rising lawlessness, collapsing agriculture, and worsening public hardships across the province.
The GDA leaders noted that despite Sindh’s abundant rice production, the provincial government has failed to provide fair prices to farmers, leaving growers in severe distress. The unchecked increase in fertilizer, seed, and pesticide prices, coupled with the absence of official support prices, has pushed the agricultural sector to the brink of collapse.
Highlighting the worsening law-and-order situation, the leaders said kidnapping for ransom, extortion, and drug trafficking have become rampant, devastating trade and industry while instilling fear among citizens. They also lamented the complete failure of the health and education sectors, noting that hospitals lack basic medicines and many government schools stand abandoned or misused.
The GDA leaders accused the ruling elite of corruption and negligence, stating that public tax money is being squandered on luxuries and foreign properties instead of solving people’s problems.
They demanded transparent investigations into the assets of rulers and strict accountability of corrupt officials.
