PESHAWAR, October:12
Local tribal leaders and residents in Pakistan’s tribal belt have announced that they will take up arms alongside the Pakistan Army against militants they say are being supported from across the Afghan border, according to local sources and widely circulated social-media audio messages.
In a Pashto audio clip shared online, tribal representatives declared their readiness to stand shoulder to shoulder with Pakistani forces against the militants, saying “defending the homeland is our duty.” Speakers in the message asserted that tribal communities have previously confronted militants and are prepared to do so again if necessary.
Local administration and security officials said they are in contact with tribal elders to ensure any mobilization remains peaceful and coordinated, and to prevent unauthorized vigilantism. Authorities stressed the importance of cooperating with law enforcement and urged communities to avoid unilateral or inflammatory actions.
Security sources added that heightened surveillance and defensive measures are underway in border districts, and joint efforts to prevent infiltration and militant activity are being strengthened.
