Islamabad, October 16, 2025:
In a city often criticized for poor quality control, unchecked prices, and rampant encroachments, the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has emerged as a rare symbol of accountability. Under the directions of the Director IFA, Deputy Director Operations Dr. Tahira Sadiq led late-night food-safety inspections across the federal capital, taking decisive action against health-hazardous practices.

During the large-scale operation, two food units were sealed, six others were heavily fined, and 22,000 litres of adulterated milk were disposed of on the spot after failing on-site quality tests.

According to Dr. Tahira Sadiq, laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of water, powder, and other prohibited substances in the milk, resulting in a severe loss of natural nutrition. Hygiene conditions at several inspected food outlets were described as “alarming”, with dish-washing detergents being used for kitchenware cleaning and zero hygiene awareness among food handlers.

Despite repeated warnings and corrective notices, several violators showed no improvement, prompting immediate legal action and monetary penalties. Essential records and documentation were missing at multiple sites, further exposing the neglect within the city’s food supply chain.

Dr. Tahira Sadiq reaffirmed that ensuring safe and quality food in the federal capital remains a top priority, declaring a “zero-tolerance policy” against adulteration and malpractice.

She emphasized that the IFA will continue its uninterrupted operations to protect citizens’ health and to restore Islamabad’s credibility, which has too long been associated with poor quality standards, uncontrolled prices, and unregulated food practices.
