Independent Report
SWAT (October 19): Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engineer Amir Muqam has expressed deep concern over the ongoing wheat flour crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that the issue has been raised in the Apex Committee meeting and that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been briefed on the hardships faced by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking to senior journalists Ghafoor Khan Adil and Shah Asad Ali in Swat, Engineer Amir Muqam said that the disruption in wheat flour supply has resulted from large-scale smuggling of flour to Afghanistan, causing severe shortages in the province.
He added that as a public representative, he cannot remain silent on issues affecting the people, noting that he has always raised his voice for public rights and will continue to do so.
The minister urged the provincial government to immediately release the wheat stocks stored in official warehouses to help curb the crisis. He expressed regret that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has failed to show seriousness in addressing this critical issue.
Engineer Amir Muqam further revealed that he had also informed Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz about the illegal overcharging of flour dealers and truck owners, adding that she assured him of prompt measures to resolve the problem.
He emphasized that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government must take swift and practical action to provide relief to the people suffering from the flour shortage.
