Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has warmly welcomed the Pakistan–Afghanistan ceasefire agreement signed in Doha, Qatar, calling it a historic step toward lasting regional peace and stability.
In a statement issued from the National Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker said that the ceasefire pact marks a significant diplomatic achievement, reflecting both nations’ commitment to coexistence, dialogue, and mutual respect.
“Peace and stability are a collective necessity for the peoples of Pakistan and Afghanistan,” he emphasized, noting that Pakistan has long upheld the principles of peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement with neighboring countries.
Commending Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace, the Speaker highlighted that the nation has paid a heavy price in the war against terrorism, sacrificing over 90,000 precious lives over the past three decades while hosting more than 4.5 million Afghan refugees — a gesture of unmatched humanitarian solidarity.
“Peace in Afghanistan is directly linked to peace in Pakistan,” he asserted, adding that the ceasefire achieved through the consensus of political and military leadership was a highly encouraging development.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also welcomed the announcement of the second phase of peace talks, scheduled to be held in Istanbul on October 25, expressing confidence that the dialogue process remains the only path to durable regional stability.
He stressed the importance of confidence-building, cooperation, people-to-people contacts, and enhanced economic partnership between the two countries, describing them as key pillars for a prosperous and peaceful South Asia.
“Parliament will continue to play an active role in promoting peace, reconciliation, and mutual trust across the region,” the Speaker reaffirmed.
Concluding his statement, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq thanked the brotherly nations of Qatar, Türkiye, and other friendly countries for their constructive role in facilitating the Pakistan–Afghanistan ceasefire agreement.
