Quetta, October 21: Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail emphasized the need to revive the reading culture among youth, stating that social media’s distractions are gradually overshadowing the habit of reading books and intellectual exploration.
He made these remarks during a meeting at the Governor House with young author Arshiya Khan Bareech of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, who recently published her first English book.
The Governor appreciated the student’s achievement and said encouraging young writers helps unlock their hidden talents. He added that books not only refine intellect but also inspire courage to challenge myths and guide individuals toward meaningful lives.
He further noted that while social media has expanded access to reading material through e-books and audiobooks, it has also changed attention spans and reading preferences. He stressed that time management and wise use of digital platforms can help promote a healthy reading culture.
Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Senator Saeedul Hassan Mandokhail, MPA Zarak Khan Mandokhail, and senior political figures Dr. Ishaq Baloch and Abdul Salam Bareech also attended the meeting. The Governor concluded by commending Arshiya Khan for her literary contribution, who presented her book to him at the end of the meeting.
