Independent Report
Quetta — October 23, 2025
In a determined move to improve public health standards, the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has intensified its inspections across Quetta, targeting unhygienic meat outlets and unsafe food handling practices.
According to official reports, inspection teams thoroughly examined 54 butcher shops in the Hazar Ganji and Eastern Bypass areas. The teams carefully evaluated the quality of meat, storage systems, and sanitation arrangements in each establishment.
During the operation, 23 beef, mutton, and poultry shops were fined for violations, including poor cleanliness, hanging meat in open air, and unhygienic surroundings, while 19 shopkeepers were issued corrective notices. Furthermore, six meat outlets were found operating without valid Food Business Licenses.
Director General BFA Waqar Khurshid Alam stated that the campaign aims to ensure that citizens of Quetta have access to quality and hygienic meat. “Our teams are not only taking action but also educating butchers on standard operating procedures, food safety rules, and proper storage methods,” he added.
Waqar Khurshid Alam emphasized that displaying meat in the open air and all other unlawful practices must be stopped immediately. He reaffirmed that the BFA is committed to ensuring clean and safe food items across the provincial capital — a city often criticized for poor hygiene standards in vegetables, milk, meat, beverages, and even drinking water.
The ongoing drive is part of the BFA’s broader mission to raise food quality standards and protect public health throughout Balochistan.
