The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) — Azad Jammu and Kashmir & Pakistan chapter — has paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of the Bijbehara massacre, reaffirming that their sacred blood will never go in vain and that their sacrifices guarantee the bright future of Kashmir’s freedom movement.

In a statement issued from Islamabad, APHC Secretary Information Mushtaq Ahmed Butt said that conscious and living nations never forget their martyrs. He recalled that on October 22, 1993 — thirty-two years ago — Indian occupation forces opened indiscriminate fire on unarmed civilians in Bijbehara, Anantnag district, martyring over 50 innocent Kashmiris and injuring dozens. He said this tragedy remains one of the most horrific examples of Indian state terrorism in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing deep regret, Butt noted that not a single Indian officer involved in the massacre has been held accountable; instead, they continue to enjoy state protection and impunity. “The families of the martyrs are still waiting for justice — a matter of grave concern for the global community,” he said.

He added that India has long believed it could suppress the Kashmiri freedom struggle through oppression and bloodshed, yet the unwavering determination, patience, and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people have defeated every such design. “No power on earth can force the people of Kashmir to surrender their identity, land, or right to self-determination,” he stated.

Reaffirming APHC’s commitment, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt said the struggle for the legitimate right to self-determination will continue until victory. “The freedom movement, nourished by the sacred blood of countless Kashmiri martyrs, will undoubtedly achieve its honorable and just conclusion,” he said.

In conclusion, he urged the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations to conduct impartial investigations into the Bijbehara massacre and other mass killings and extrajudicial executions in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and to hold India accountable for its war crimes and grave human rights violations.
