Quetta, October 27, 2025
The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) successfully concluded its special campaign aimed at eliminating the sale of substandard and unhygienic meat across Quetta. On the final day of the drive, inspection teams carried out detailed inspections of 24 meat shops in various areas of Satellite Town and A-One City.
The BFA teams thoroughly examined hygiene conditions, storage facilities, and the overall quality of meat being sold. Due to poor sanitation arrangements, unsafe display practices, and the hanging of meat outside shops, action was taken against 17 beef, mutton, and poultry outlets.
A total of 11 beef and mutton shop owners, along with 2 poultry sellers, were fined for violating food safety and hygiene standards. Meanwhile, five other shops were issued corrective notices and given time to improve conditions.
Additionally, four butchers were fined for selling meat without valid food business licenses.
Director General BFA, Waqar Khurshid Alam, stated that the primary objective of the campaign was to ensure meat quality and hygiene standards in accordance with food safety SOPs across the province.
He added that inspection teams also educated butchers on BFA regulations, food safety measures, and hygiene requirements.
DG Alam warned that stricter action would be taken in the future against those selling stale or unhygienic meat, hanging meat outside shops, or violating food safety laws.
