Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Urges Global Action to End Crimes Against Journalists — Condemns Israeli and Indian Atrocities in Gaza and Kashmir

Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called for collective global efforts to end crimes against journalists, emphasizing that journalism is a vital pillar of the state and a cornerstone of democracy.

In his message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, the Speaker noted that journalists around the world face violence, intimidation, and threats while performing their professional duties, and many have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Ayaz Sadiq underscored that the creation of a just and democratic society requires an absolute end to crimes against media professionals. He strongly condemned the atrocities committed against journalists in Gaza, Palestine, and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, describing the acts of the Israeli and Indian forces as “a blatant violation of human rights and press freedom.”

He urged the United Nations to take immediate notice of crimes against journalists in Gaza and Kashmir, stressing that such actions amount to suppressing free expression and concealing the truth.

The Speaker reaffirmed that Pakistan’s Parliament has always played an effective role in protecting press freedom and ensuring journalists’ safety. He cited the Right of Access to Information Act 2017 as a reflection of the Parliament’s commitment to transparency and accountable governance.

Ayaz Sadiq said that Parliament firmly believes in freedom of the press and public access to information, adding that it is essential to create an environment where journalists can work fearlessly and independently.

Praising the contribution of the media fraternity, the Speaker said that the role of journalists in promoting and strengthening democracy is commendable, assuring that Parliament will continue to raise its voice for journalists’ rights and protection at every forum.
