Archbishop Germano Penemote, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Pakistan, called on Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar in Islamabad today. Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik was also present at the meeting.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar expressed the government’s deep appreciation for the Christian community’s longstanding and invaluable contributions to Pakistan, particularly in education, health, and social welfare sectors. He noted that Christian missionary schools, colleges, and hospitals have played a pivotal role in educating and uplifting generations of Pakistanis, reflecting the community’s unwavering commitment to national development and social progress.
The meeting focused on a wide range of government initiatives aimed at ensuring the protection, inclusion, and welfare of religious minorities. These include the restoration and enhanced security of places of worship, strengthened institutional mechanisms to safeguard minority rights, and the provision of educational scholarships and financial support for underprivileged minority families.
Archbishop Penemote lauded the government’s efforts and acknowledged their positive impact on minority communities. He reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to promoting interfaith harmony, peace, and social cohesion in Pakistan.
Senator Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s constitutional and international human rights commitments, affirming the Ministry’s determination to build a society where citizens of all faiths enjoy equal rights, security, and meaningful participation in national life.
