Pakistan’s Port Ranked 9th Best Container Port in the World by World Bank

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr. Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, visited the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) today, where he was warmly received by Rear Admiral (Retd.) Syed Moazzam Ilyas, HI(M), Chairman PQA.

 

The visit was held in connection with Pakistan Maritime Week 2025 and to recognize PQA’s recent international achievement. According to the World Bank’s “Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2024,” Port Qasim has been ranked as the 9th best container port in the world — a milestone attributed to administrative reforms, modernization, and digital transformation initiatives undertaken at the port.

 

During the visit, the Federal Minister also inspected the IOCB Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal, where he was briefed on ongoing operations, security protocols, and industrial expansion projects under public-private partnerships.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry stated, “The remarkable improvement in Port Qasim’s global ranking reflects Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing its maritime capacity and port infrastructure. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs will continue to support PQA’s development projects to boost trade and economic activity.”

 

The Federal Minister interacted with media representatives. Senior officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Port Qasim Authority on the occasion.
