Lodhi Appointed as Deputy Governor SBP

Seasoned central banker over 2 decade experience takes charge; to serve a five-year term

KARACHI: The Federal Government has appointed Mr. Muhammad Amin Khan Lodhi as Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for a period of five years, effective October 30, 2025. He assumed his responsibilities on the same day.

 

Mr. Lodhi brings with him over 26 years of diverse experience in the formulation and implementation of monetary and exchange rate policies in Pakistan. Prior to his appointment, he served as Executive Director, Monetary Policy and Research Group at the SBP, where he led the preparation of macroeconomic analyses and projections for the Monetary Policy Committee, oversaw the Bank’s flagship research publications, and supervised data dissemination processes.

 

Throughout his career, Mr. Lodhi has contributed significantly to key policy initiatives, including the adoption of the market-based exchange rate regime, the design and implementation of the interest rate corridor framework, and reforms in the Primary Dealers System of government securities.

 

He also led the team that developed the State Bank’s five-year Strategic Plan — SBP Vision 2028, aimed at enhancing institutional effectiveness and policy responsiveness.

 

Mr. Lodhi holds a Master’s degree in Development Economics from Williams College, USA, and another in Economics from the University of Karachi.
